Background
Established in 2012, the Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP) was founded to address the growing demand for rigorous research in applied psychology. Over the years, it has played a pivotal role in promoting a culture of scholarly inquiry and evidence-based practice within the university.
In 2025, reflecting its expanded interdisciplinary direction, the Centre was renamed the Centre for Applied Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience (CAPCN) to incorporate the dynamic field of cognitive neuroscience alongside its existing strengths in psychology.
Today, CAPCN focuses on a wide range of research areas including educational psychology, counselling psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, clinical psychology, positive psychology, social and cultural psychology, cognitive psychology, and cognitive neuroscience, with particular emphasis on neurocognitive aspects of mental health; cognitive enhancement and human performance; neuromodulation and brain stimulation techniques; psychophysiological and neuroimaging studies; and applied neuropsychology in clinical and workplace settings.
Through its multidisciplinary research, CAPCN remains committed to advancing psychological science and contributing meaningful solutions to real-world challenges across clinical, educational, community, and organizational settings
